Private Equipment Storage
BCR has scull rack space available for BCR members who wish to row their own rowing boats from the boathouse. Policies for the rack space wait list, and allocation and retention of rack space are presented in this section, as are requirements for storage of privately owned oars. These policies are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the BCR Executive Committee.
In the event it is determined that the storage of private boats will not be allowed, for any reason, members will be given 30 days to remove their equipment and prorated rack space fees will be returned. Equipment unauthorized for storage that is left in the boathouse 60 days after owners notified will be disposed of in a manner of the club’s choosing.
The BCR boathouse manager is responsible for maintaining the club rack space waiting list, allocating rack space to eligible BCR members from the wait list, organizing allocated racks, and determining retention eligibility. If individuals have unusual circumstances that may prevent them from complying with these policies and special consideration is desired they shall notify the boathouse manager when this is determined.
Requirements for Allocation and Retention of Private Boat Rack Space
Individuals using boat rack space shall have a current annual membership and be a member in good standing.
Individuals initially applying for private boat storage after 1 January 2012 shall be bow certified
Individuals using boat rack space shall pay the annual rack use fee appropriate to their boat class by January 31 of each year. After January 31, a $25 late fee will be imposed on members who have not paid the annual fee.
Individuals who have not paid the annual rack use fee by March 31 are subject to having their equipment removed from the boathouse and transported and stored elsewhere at the owner's expense.
Individually owned boats shall be rowed 125 miles [200 km] or greater each calendar year to retain rack space allocation. Cumulative distance for the boat shall be maintain in the sign-out log after each outing. Owner of boat may designate other BCR members in good standing as their surrogate in meeting the distance requirement, but they shall meet other criteria herein.
Individuals using boat rack space shall contribute at least 10 hours of BCR volunteer work each year.
Individuals shall complete the boat sign-out log each time they use a boat held in a private boat rack, in particular tabulating cumulative distance after each row.
Individuals that use a boat held in a private boat rack shall be bow certified.
Allocated rack space is not transferable to other individuals.
Individuals allocated boat rack space shall receive a key to the boathouse subject to a deposit refundable upon return of the key. Key holders shall maintain the boathouse in a locked condition when using their boats (away regattas excepted).
Requirements for Private Oar Storage
Individuals using oar storage space shall have a current annual membership and be a member in good standing.
Individuals using oar storage space shall pay the annual use fee by January 31 of each year. After January 31, a $5 late fee will be imposed on members who have not paid the annual fee.
Individuals who have not paid the annual use fee by March 31 are subject to having their equipment removed from the boathouse and transported and stored elsewhere at the owner's expense.
Allocated oar storage space is not transferable to other individuals.
Individuals that have overhead rack space are encouraged to store their oars with their boats.
Individuals that have allocated boat rack space shall have first priority in allocation of oar storage space.
If oar storage space is not adequate to accommodate demand, a waiting list shall be maintained and requirement 4 above shall apply.
Requirements for the Boat Rack Waiting List
The boathouse manager shall maintain a list of individuals that desire rack space. List shall include the following information:
- Relative position in allocation queue
- Date added to list
- Applicant’s Name
- Their e-mail address
- Volunteer Hours (cumulative since request)
- Bow Certified (yes/no)
Applicants shall notify the boathouse manager of their request with information identified above at firstname.lastname@example.org
. Applicants shall be responsible for keeping list information current by notifying boathouse manager of changes.
When notified that boat rack space is available the rower shall respond and pay for their rack within 15 days, else their position on the waiting list is forfeit. At this time they shall become a full club member.
The allocated rack space shall be occupied or new boat receipt shall be provided within 45 days of notification or the rack space shall be forfeit.
