BURNThe Great Baltimore Burn
Hosted by the Baltimore Rowing Club
why 'the burn'?
The Great Baltimore Burn is named after the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. The blaze spanned 70 city blocks and burned for over 30 hours, requiring the help of more than 1,200 firefighters before the flames were brought under control. Historically, our event takes place the first Saturday in February.
The name is also a play on the deep pain you feel in your legs during and after the 2000m sprint ... but you already knew that part.

- The Baltimore Rowing Club

this year's beneficiary
The Baltimore Rowing Club aims to send underserved youth to college through its outreach program called Reach High Baltimore: Rowers Empowering Academic Commitment and High Achievement in Baltimore City Youth. Beginning as early as sixth grade, dozens of boys and girls from nearby Baltimore neighborhoods first learn to swim, develop good fitness and nutrition, learn proper ergometer training and rowing technique and build team work both on and off the water. Twice a week in middle school and five days a week on the competitive high school team, Reach High participants learn that the same focus, discipline, commitment and hard work necessary for success in rowing are the qualities that bring high achievement and fulfillment in school and in life. Caring, competent coaches, generous individuals, foundations and corporations and the commitment of resources from the Baltimore Rowing Club make this program possible.
